Magnificent Me is part of Zonta’s mission to build a better world for women and girls.
Magnificent Me is a signature service project of the Zonta Club of Hilo to equip adolescent girls with confidence-building strategies and tools.
We want to catch that pivot point as the world opens before them—introducing life skills such as communication, goal setting, and confidence building.
The half-day conference brings 100 middle school girls from East Hawai’i schools into classrooms at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo for a suite of workshops to inspire a strong sense of self.
Empowering Adolescent Girls
Girls experience obstacles and discrimination early. They’re the target of 24/7 media messages that promote unrealistic images of what it is beautiful and successful. If we invest in our girls, offering better models and more holistic ideas about self-worth, we unlock limitless potential and drive positive socio-economic change.
Magnificent Me Conference:
INSPIRING A STRONG SENSE OF SELF
The Zonta Club of Hilo is putting its mission – building a better world for women and girls – into action with adolescent girls. Magnificent Me is an initiative focused on empowerment before these “tweens” transition into teenagers. The Magnificent Me project brings together 100 middle-school-aged girls from schools throughout East Hawai‘i (from Laupahoehoe to Pahoa) for a half-day conference at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo campus to build confidence, explore career pathways, and enhance life skills.
The setting is purposeful. Introducing the girls to the university can inspire their thirst for education. The conference features a series of workshops on the campus aimed at encouraging girls to dream, craft plans to achieve goals, celebrate their unique qualities, and fine-tune communication skills. Prominent professional women across industries will be featured throughout the conference as keynote speakers and presenters.
CONFERENCE SNAPSHOT
Each invited school is allotted a set number of girls to attend based on school population. Counselors are encouraged to identify girls who are diamonds in the rough; that is, someone who is not necessarily at the top of her class or a go-getter, but has the potential to shine if given the tools and opportunity.
Magnificent Me is a chance for girls to come together for confidence building content, thought-provoking conversations, and invaluable bonding experiences.

CONTRIBUTE.
The conference is free for the girls. Transportation and lunch are provided. Each school can send up to two representatives (counselors, teachers) to serve as chaperones and participate in their own networking and capacity building workshops as part of the Magnificent Me conference.
